Next Emergent meeting:

There will NOT be an Emergent meeting on Thursday, 1 April because the Candidate is not ready. However, we are planning a double Second Degree for the Emergent Night in May, which falls on 6 May. The candidates will be Bros Clarke and St. Pierre.

Next regular meeting:

Our next Regular Meeting will be on Thursday, 15 April. This will be "Election Night", when we will be voting on the senior officers for the coming Masonic year. We will also be doing a First Degree to initiate Mr. O'Neil Brooke.

News from the Regular Meeting  18 February 2010

Because our Regular Meeting in March meeting fell in the "March Break" of Ottawa schools, some of our officers were away.  The WM was in London England and the Secretary was down in Kilmarnock, VA, building another Habitat for Humanity house. Nevertheless, the meeting wasably managed by the SW, WBro Pepper, sitting in the East, and the secretarial functions were done by Bro Martineau.   The work of the evening was Masonic Education, under the tutelage of RWBro Harbert.  We also balloted on the Petition of Mr. O'Neil Brooke and the Application for Affiliation of WBro Mark Paine, with the ballots being favourable to both applicants.

Since the third Thursday of December is much too close to Christmas for comfort, some years ago, Bytown amended its bylaws to provide for the December Regular Meeting to fall on the second Thursday;  this year, that was the 13th.
The evening began with a simple festive board provided by the members themselves.  WBro Ingraham made a delicious beef and barley soup, and several members of the lodge brought sandwiches.  The tables were set up, informally, in a square, which enabled everyone to converse with everyone else.

There was no degree work, but RWBro Harbert did invest WBro George Ingraham as SW, to replace the late WBro Cal Bellamy, who passed to the Grand Lodge Above last month.
There was a very strong turnout for this meeting from our own members and we were pleased to welcome five visitors, two of whom have indicated that they will be applying to affiliate.

After the meeting, many brothers stayed for fellowship, cake and coffee, to round out a pleasant and memorable evening.

The Most Worshipful, the Grand Master, Paul E. Todd will be attending Bytown's Installation night on 17 May, where, in addition to participating in the installation of our new WM, he will be presenting VWBro Cal Bellamy with his 50 year pin.
Our January Regular Meeting will be the occasion of the Official Visit of our District Deputy Grand Master, RWBro Kenneth Brinston.   A splendid festive board is planned, with a Robbie Burns theme;.  (there will be a haggis).    At time of writing, no degree work is planned, but there will be Masonic Education, and there will be some work in the Third Degree.   Visitors, as always, are welcome in the Friendly Lodge, but the JW would appreciate it if prospective visitors would let him know ahead, so that adequate food will be available.
