Next Emergent meeting:

There will NOT be an Emergent meeting on Thursday, 1 April because the Candidate is not ready. However, we are planning a double Second Degree for the Emergent Night in May, which falls on 6 May. The candidates will be Bros Clarke and St. Pierre.

Next regular meeting:

Our next Regular Meeting will be on Thursday, 15 April. This will be "Election Night", when we will be voting on the senior officers for the coming Masonic year. We will also be doing a First Degree to initiate Mr. O'Neil Brooke.

News from the Regular Meeting  18 February 2010

Because our Regular Meeting in March meeting fell in the "March Break" of Ottawa schools, some of our officers were away.  The WM was in London England and the Secretary was down in Kilmarnock, VA, building another Habitat for Humanity house. Nevertheless, the meeting wasably managed by the SW, WBro Pepper, sitting in the East, and the secretarial functions were done by Bro Martineau.   The work of the evening was Masonic Education, under the tutelage of RWBro Harbert.  We also balloted on the Petition of Mr. O'Neil Brooke and the Application for Affiliation of WBro Mark Paine, with the ballots being favourable to both applicants.

The January Regular Meeting was DD Night, and it was a great success!  So many people attended the pre-meeting festive board that an extra table had to be added.   In recognition of the nearness of Robert Burns' birthday (25 January), in addition to the evening being DD Night, several lodge members, including WBros Ingraham and Macdonald wore highland dress.   Also, since the candidate for the evening is a serving member of the Canadian Forces, brethren were asked to wear their medals.  Before the main meal was served Bro Andrew Atkinson and WBro George Ingraham ceremoniously carried in a haggis and placed it on the head table.  Then Bro Atkinson recited Burns' "Address to the Haggis",  his pronounced Scottish accent lending an air of profound authenticity to the flawless recitation.  Supplementing the haggis, the main course was roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings.

The first degree which followed was done with Bytown's usual flair.  Although everyone did good work, WBro Fraser's rendition of the JW's lecture was a particular standout.  We welcome our newest Mason, Bro Mohtashim Alhaq as our newest Mason.

The evening concluded with a short piece of Masonic education by RWBro Michael Nagrodski, the DDGM, on the meaning of the four tassels which grace every lodge room.

Our special ladies have not been forgotten.  Each of those who reside in the Ottawa Area has been brought a Shriners Christmas Cake, along with a Christmas message from the WM and members of the Lodge.

News from the Emergent Meeting   4 Jan 18

Unusually for Bytown, we held an Emergent Meeting right at the start of the New Year, on 4 Jan 18, in order to confer a First Degree.

Two visitors attended and were very complimentary about the way Bytown conducted the degree.  We were blessed with an excellent candidate in the person of our newest Brother,  Hugo Johansen,  seen on the WM's left in the photo below.  We were also honoured to have the DDGM attend in a fraternal visit.

In addition to the degree work, Bytown also balloted on the application of  Mr. Mohtashim Alhaq, which proved to be favourable to the applicant.  Mr. Athaq will be initiated at our Regular Meeting on 18 Jan 18.
