Next Emergent meeting:

There will NOT be an Emergent meeting on Thursday, 1 April because the Candidate is not ready. However, we are planning a double Second Degree for the Emergent Night in May, which falls on 6 May. The candidates will be Bros Clarke and St. Pierre.

Next regular meeting:

Our next Regular Meeting will be on Thursday, 15 April. This will be "Election Night", when we will be voting on the senior officers for the coming Masonic year. We will also be doing a First Degree to initiate Mr. O'Neil Brooke.

News from the Regular Meeting  18 February 2010

Because our Regular Meeting in March meeting fell in the "March Break" of Ottawa schools, some of our officers were away.  The WM was in London England and the Secretary was down in Kilmarnock, VA, building another Habitat for Humanity house. Nevertheless, the meeting wasably managed by the SW, WBro Pepper, sitting in the East, and the secretarial functions were done by Bro Martineau.   The work of the evening was Masonic Education, under the tutelage of RWBro Harbert.  We also balloted on the Petition of Mr. O'Neil Brooke and the Application for Affiliation of WBro Mark Paine, with the ballots being favourable to both applicants.

Our Regular Meeting in January was the occasion of the DDGM, RWBro Ken Brinston's official visit.  20 members of Bytown were present and we welcomed no less than 46 visitors.

The evening began with a cocktail hour, featuring a selection of Olive Nelson's delicious hors d'oeuvres.  The splendid festive Board which followed featured a piped-in Haggis, carried in by WBro Scott Macdonald.  The piper was Bro Ron Laursen.  Bro Iain Forsyth gave the address to the haggis and the ceremony concluded with the three of them drinking the traditional quaich cup "dram".   Then. .  After the usual opening toasts, the brethren enjoyed a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings.  The brethren then gathered in the Lodge Room for the meeting itself.

Once the lodge was opened, the many present and past Grand Lodge officers, and current Worshipful Masters, were introduced by the D of C and given grand honours.  Then the DDGM was welcomed under the wands, given grand honours, and briefly assumed the gavel.  The work of the evening included Bro Jad Abboud proving himself in the third degree, following which, he was presented with his MM's certificate by the WM and a document explaining the significance of the certificate's symbology, by the DDGM.  Back in  first degree, the Brethren voted favourably on the application for affiliation of Bro David Raymond Baker, hailing from Ionic Lodge No. 229, and he was welcomed into the Lodge by the WM.  Conducting Masonic Education, WBro Farrell presented Sunday Masonic Paper No. 811, entitled "Secrecy in Symbolism".  The DDGM then gave an interesting short talk on Equality in Masonry.

After the lodge was closed, the brethren and guests reassembled in the banquet room downstairs to enjoy coffee and another of Olive Nelson's spectacular cakes (see photo at left).

The Most Worshipful, the Grand Master, Paul E. Todd will be attending Bytown's Installation night on 17 May, where, in addition to participating in the installation of our new WM, he will be presenting VWBro Cal Bellamy with his 50 year pin.

The work of the evening  will be a third degree.
As usual, there will be a festive board prior to the meeting, beginning at 1800 hrs.   The Festive Board will feature the ever-popular Bytown chili dogs.   We expect the DDGM to be in attendance to view how Bytown does a degree.
